Quite often what you say verbally or what you think your dog understands is not what your body language tells them – except for a few words that you might have taught your dog to understand – your dog doesn’t know what you say to them.
Dogs communicate through body language, scent, touch and voice in 4 ways. In fact, dogs understand body language better than we do. Your dog communicates with you daily more than not. I bet you speak all the time to your dog. I know I do but how many know what your dog is actually saying to you. The most common thing I hear from the dog owner is “My dog knows when he did the wrong thing” In fact your dog doesn’t know – he reads your body language, feeds off your emotions and listens to your voice. If you are angry, your posture/position appears more threatening/dominating and your voice may sound harsher or high pitched.
